(West New York) – In yet another classic example of revisionist history, Perth Amboy Mayor Joe Vas this week claimed that, "the charge that I aided a drug dealer is an outright lie and has been proven one." [Jersey Journal, 5/18/06] He also accused his primary opponent Albio Sires of waging a "false and misleading… campaign." [NJN News, 5/17/06] But despite trying to rewrite history to cover up his dismal record, Vas cannot ignore the basic facts that led to his helping a Perth Amboy woman arrested for selling heroin in Camden make bail. Worse yet, the heroin dealer was arrested while out on bail for running a heroin ring out of her home in Perth Amboy.

(West New York) – In what is becoming a consistent pattern of saying one thing and doing another, Perth Amboy Mayor Joe Vas has yet again gone back on his word to provide the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs with relevant financial data needed for the state to approve Perth Amboy's 2006 budget. As recently as April 24th, Vas pledged to provide DCA with missing revenue figures within fifteen days, as ordered by the state. More than three weeks later, Vas has still not turned over the necessary data, leading the state to demand that he remove $8 million of proposed revenue from his budget. Perth Amboy's budget, which is now eleven months late, will contain an average tax increases of up to $300 per household as a result of his fiscal mismanagement.

(Perth Amboy) - Pointing to a record of failed leadership by Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas, Perth Amboy Councilman David Szilagyi and community leaders Israel Varela, Carmen Ramirez and Scott Farber today endorsed former Speaker Albio Sires for Congress in the 13th Congressional District. Sires is running against Vas to fill the vacancy created by now-Senator Robert Menendez, who had previously represented the 13th District in Congress.

(West New York) - The Albio Sires for Congress campaign today called on Perth Amboy Mayor Joe Vas to stop hiding revenue relating to his FY 2006 budget. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has notified Vas that it refuses to approve his budget because he has repeatedly refused to supply the department with "items of revenue," despite repeated requests from the DCA over a six month period.

(West New York) – The Sires for Congress campaign today accused Assemblyman Joe Vas of flip-flopping on the need for a special election being held this November to fill out the vacancy in the 13th Congressional District. The voters in the 13th CD have been without representation since Governor Corzine elevated then-Congressman Robert Menendez to the United States Senate in January. Albio Sires and James Geron are the only two candidates who are seeking the Democratic nomination to fill out the remainder of Menendez's term.

(West New York) – The Sires for Congress campaign today accused Assemblyman Joe Vas of putting politics ahead of policy by refusing to run in the special election to fill out the unexpired term in the 13th CD left vacant by former Rep. Robert Menendez when he was appointed to the Senate earlier this year.

(West New York) – Despite repeated and hypocritical claims of public service, 13th Congressional District candidate Joseph Vas failed yesterday to file nominating petitions to run for the special election that would fill the vacancy in the 13th Congressional District this November. Governor Corzine recently ordered a special election primary to run concurrently with the regular congressional elections on June 6th. The winner of the special primary will run as the Democratic nominee in the November election to fill out the remainder of former Congressman Menendez's unexpired term immediately following the general election this fall. The 13th Congressional District vacancy arose when Menendez was appointed to the United States Senate earlier this year by Governor Corzine.

(Newark) –The Essex-West Hudson Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO today endorsed former Speaker Albio Sires for Congress in the 13th Congressional District, citing his commitment to expanding opportunities for working families.
